Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start your journey in the town of Baucau, which is approximately 27 kilometers from Wainei. Drive east on the main road (the Ainaro-Baucau Road) for about 20 kilometers until you reach the junction near Lacoliu. Take a left turn at the junction and continue driving for another 7 kilometers. You will pass through several small villages. Follow the signs leading to Lacoliu, and when you reach the area with the coordinates 8GRJ+48, you will arrive at Wainei. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as fuel stations may be sparse along this route.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Wainei using public transportation, start from Baucau by taking a shared taxi (known locally as a 'microlet') heading towards Lacoliu. The fare is usually around $2-3. Once you arrive in Lacoliu, you may need to negotiate with local drivers to take you the final 7 kilometers to Wainei, as public transport may not cover this last stretch directly. It’s advisable to agree on the fare before starting the ride, which can vary depending on the number of passengers and distance, typically costing around $10.

• Walking

  For adventurous travelers, if you're already in the vicinity of Lacoliu, you can hike to Wainei. From the center of Lacoliu, head towards the marked trails leading into the hills. The hike will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and sufficient water. The trails can be steep and may require some navigation skills, so it’s advisable to ask local residents for directions before starting your hike.
