Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town in the Köýtendag Mountains, which is likely Köýtendag itself. From Köýtendag, take the main road heading southeast. Follow the signs towards the Köýtendag Nature Reserve. After approximately 15 kilometers, you will reach a junction. Take the road heading towards the Gora Uzun-Khar area, following the signs for the mountain peak. Continue driving for another 10 kilometers, where you will start to see signs indicating the approach to Gora Uzun-Khar. The road may become rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Park your car at the designated parking area, and the peak will be accessible by a short hike from there.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Ashgabat to Köýtendag. Buses depart regularly from the main bus station. The journey takes around 6-8 hours, depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Köýtendag, you can hire a local taxi or use a shared taxi to reach the area near Gora Uzun-Khar. The cost for the taxi from Köýtendag to the base of Gora Uzun-Khar is approximately 20-30 Turkmenistan Manat, depending on negotiation. Ensure to confirm the return trip with the driver or find another local transport option for your way back.

• Hiking

  After reaching the parking area or drop-off point from your car or taxi, you will need to hike to Gora Uzun-Khar. The trail is well-marked, but it's advisable to wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry water. The hike to the peak will take about 1-2 hours, depending on your fitness level. Follow the signs and keep an eye out for markers along the path. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, so take your time to enjoy the scenery.
