Queens' College was established in 1448 by Margaret of Anjou on the site of an earlier hostel, then refounded in 1465 by Elizabeth Woodville after the Wars of the Roses. The original Old Court formed one of the earliest complete medieval college complexes in Cambridge. Later additions include Walnut Tree Court from 1616 and 20th-century Cripps Court, while the core fabric from the 15th century remains intact. Erasmus studied here in the early 16th century.
