Transformation from Military Depot to Lush Country Park

Rushcliffe Country Park occupies a 210-acre site that was once a Ministry of Defence depot. After the buildings were demolished, the site was reclaimed and landscaped starting in 1989, with completion in 1993. The rubble from the depot was repurposed to shape the terrain, including raising areas like Fowemer Hill by seven meters. Nearly 140,000 trees were planted, and a 70,000-square-meter lake was created, fed by a culvert known as Gibsons Dyke. This transformation turned the former industrial site into a thriving natural habitat and recreational area.

The park’s varied environments include woodlands, grasslands, wildflower meadows, and reed beds spanning two hectares around the lake.
