Architectural Grandeur Rooted in the Scottish Enlightenment

Old College stands as a monumental symbol of the University of Edinburgh’s academic prestige and historical significance. The name “Old College” came into use after the university built a new college on the Mound, which took the title “New College.” Later, in 1887, architect Robert Rowand Anderson added the iconic dome, topped by the Golden Boy statue sculpted by John Hutchison.
