Discovering Equal Brewkery

Nestled in Whitlingham Country Park along Whitlingham Lane in Trowse Newton, Norwich, Equal Brewkery stands as a beacon of inclusion and craftsmanship. This unique microbrewery and bakery operates from a converted shipping container, blending the art of brewing fine ales with the craft of baking Real Bread, cakes, and pizzas. Open Tuesday to Thursday mornings, it welcomes visitors to witness and support its transformative mission.

The Inspiring Origin Story

Founded in 2017 by Bill Russell after his personal recovery from a stroke, Equal Brewkery was born from a profound vision. Motivated by the challenges faced by people with learning disabilities, brain impairments, and neurodiverse conditions, Bill created a space where they could thrive. As a community interest company run by volunteers, it provides real-world training, fostering employment skills through practical brewing and baking sessions. Overcoming hurdles like COVID closures and a structural relocation, the Brewkery has relocated to its current scenic park location, continuing to brew favorites like Golden Ale, Festive Ale, and Oatmeal Stout while baking lemon drizzle cakes, carrot cakes, and more.

Craft Beer and Artisanal Bakes

Beer enthusiasts savor Equal Brewkery's innovative lineup: refreshing Blonde Ales with citrus notes, rich Festive Ales evoking winter warmth, robust Oatmeal Stouts, and complex Red Rye Ales. All are crafted with premium ingredients from supporters like Crisp Maltings and Adnams. The bakery shines with wholesome Real Bread made without enhancers, alongside brownies, apple crumble shortbread, and pizzas. Available for purchase on-site during collection hours or through local East of England Co-op stores, these products fund the enterprise's vital work.

Community Impact and Visitor Experience

Every visit supports trainees who are neurodiverse or have learning disabilities, guided by dedicated volunteers. Enhanced by tools like a donated Samsung interactive whiteboard, sessions build confidence and well-being. Taste the difference of purpose-driven craft while strolling the country park surroundings. Whether buying a Brewkery slice online, volunteering a few hours, or stocking up on beer, your involvement helps create fulfilling lives.
