The Moffat Spitfire is a full-size replica of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX fighter aircraft, displayed in a garden setting in Moffat, Scotland. Created by retired pilot Dr Hamish MacLeod, it honors Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, the mastermind of the RAF's Battle of Britain victory. Soon to be relocated to Dowding House, a retirement home for RAF veterans, the Spitfire serves as a poignant memorial and a symbol of local pride and wartime history.

Bus
Take the local bus service from Dumfries to Moffat town center, which takes approximately 40-50 minutes. From the town center, the Spitfire is a 10-minute walk. Bus services run several times daily but check schedules for weekend availability. Tickets cost around £5-£7.
Car
Driving from Dumfries to Moffat takes about 30 minutes via the A701. Parking near the Spitfire is limited; visitors are encouraged to use public parking in Moffat town center and walk to the site. Parking is free but can be busy during peak times.
Train and Walk
The nearest train station is Lockerbie, approximately 20 km from Moffat. From Lockerbie, take a taxi or local bus to Moffat (20-30 minutes). Walking from the town center to the Spitfire site takes about 10 minutes on mostly flat terrain.
