Punta Carretas Lighthouse: A Beacon of Montevideo

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in the Punta Carretas area, the lighthouse is within walking distance. Start from the Punta Carretas Shopping Center. Exit the shopping center and head southeast on José Ellauri Street towards the coast. Continue straight until you reach the Rambla de Montevideo, a picturesque waterfront promenade. Turn left (east) and walk along the Rambla. After about 10-15 minutes of walking, you will see the Punta Carretas Lighthouse on your right. It's a tall, white structure, easily recognizable.

• Public Bus

  If you prefer to take public transportation, you can catch a bus. From any point in Punta Carretas, look for a bus stop that services lines 146 or 164. Board the bus heading towards the coast. After a few stops, disembark at the 'Rambla y 21 de Setiembre' stop. From there, walk east along the Rambla for about 5 minutes. The Punta Carretas Lighthouse will be on your right. The bus fare is approximately 40 Uruguayan pesos.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more direct route, consider taking a taxi or using a rideshare app like Uber. Simply enter 'Punta Carretas Lighthouse' as your destination in the app. The ride from central Punta Carretas should take around 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic, and will cost approximately 100-150 Uruguayan pesos. This option is convenient if you're traveling with a group or carrying heavy items.
