Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Green River, UT. Head east on E Main St toward N 2nd E St. Continue onto US-6 E/US-50 E for about 22 miles. Then, take the exit toward UT-24 E. Drive on UT-24 E for approximately 15 miles until you reach the junction with I-70. Take I-70 E and drive for about 30 miles. Take exit 149 for UT-191 S towards Moab. Continue on UT-191 S for about 25 miles, and then turn left onto a dirt road that leads to the Black Dragon Pictograph site. The last stretch requires careful driving on unpaved roads, so ensure your vehicle is capable of handling rough terrain.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this remote area. You can take a Greyhound bus to Green River, UT, but from there you'll need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Black Dragon Pictograph. Once in Green River, use a local taxi service to get to the pictograph site. Be sure to arrange the taxi in advance, as services may not be readily available. The taxi ride will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the site, and the cost can range from $30 to $50 depending on availability.

• Hiking

  If you are already in the Book Cliffs area and prefer to hike, you can park at the nearest accessible point along the dirt road leading to the pictographs. Be prepared for a hike of approximately 1-2 miles, depending on where you park. Follow the trail markers and look for signs that lead to the Black Dragon Pictograph site. Ensure you have plenty of water and wear appropriate hiking gear as the terrain can be rocky and uneven.
