Getting There

• Car

  From Port Vila, drive north on the main road (also known as the Ring Road). Continue for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for the Nguna Island ferry at the village of Takara. Look for signs indicating the ferry terminal. The road is well-maintained but be cautious of local traffic and pedestrians. Once you arrive at the ferry terminal, park your car in the designated area (there may be a small parking fee).

• Ferry

  At the Takara ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry to Nguna Island. The ferry runs frequently, but it’s best to check the schedule ahead of time to avoid long waits. The cost of the ferry is around 1,000 Vatu (approximately 10 USD) per person for a round trip. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes. Enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding ocean and islands during the crossing.

• Public Transportation

  If you don’t have access to a car, consider taking a public bus from Port Vila to Takara. Buses depart regularly from the main bus terminal in Port Vila. The fare is typically around 300 Vatu (about 3 USD). Inform the driver you are going to the Nguna ferry terminal to ensure you are dropped off at the right location. After arriving at Takara, follow the previously mentioned ferry instructions.

• Walking from the ferry terminal

  Once you disembark the ferry on Nguna Island, you can explore the island on foot. The main village is a short walk from the ferry dock. Be sure to bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as some areas may require walking on uneven ground.
