Getting There

• Car

  If you have access to a car, start your journey from Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu. Drive north on the main road (also known as the 'Ring Road') for approximately 22 kilometers. Look for signs directing you towards Emao Island. You will need to take a short ferry ride to reach the island itself. The ferry departs from the main wharf in Port Vila. Make sure to check the ferry schedule in advance, as it may vary. The ferry fare is approximately 1,500 Vatu per person. Once on Emao, you can explore the island by car or on foot.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  For those using public transportation, catch a bus from Port Vila heading towards the northern regions of Shefa. Buses are generally available from the main bus terminal in Port Vila. Inform the driver that you are headed to the ferry terminal for Emao Island. The bus fare is around 300 Vatu. Upon arrival at the ferry terminal, purchase your ferry ticket to Emao Island, which costs about 1,500 Vatu. Once you arrive on Emao, local transport options may be limited, so be prepared for some walking or check for any local taxis.

• Taxi

  Taxis are available in Port Vila if you prefer a more direct route. You can hire a taxi to take you to the ferry terminal. The taxi ride will cost approximately 1,000 to 1,500 Vatu depending on your starting point in Port Vila. After reaching the ferry terminal, purchase your ticket for the ferry to Emao Island, which is around 1,500 Vatu. Once you arrive on the island, taxis may be scarce, so plan accordingly for your return trip.
