Walking
From St. Peter's Square, exit through the main entrance of St. Peter's Basilica. Once you are outside, face towards the large obelisk located in the center of the square. Walk straight towards the obelisk. As you reach the obelisk, continue walking straight along the Via della Conciliazione. This street leads directly away from St. Peter's Square. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the Piazza di Spagna. You will see the famous Spanish Steps on your left side as you approach the square.
Bus
From St. Peter's Square, head towards the bus stop located near the entrance of the Vatican Museums on Viale Vaticano. Look for the ATAC bus stop which has various bus lines available. Take Bus 81 towards 'Largo di Torre Argentina'. After approximately 10 minutes, get off at the 'Piazza di Spagna' stop. You will find yourself right at the foot of the Spanish Steps.
Metro
To reach the nearest metro station from St. Peter's Square, walk towards the Vatican Museums exit on Viale Vaticano. Once you reach the end of that road, turn left and walk down to the 'Ottaviano - San Pietro - Musei Vaticani' metro station (Line A). Take the metro towards 'Anagnina' and get off at the 'Spagna' station. Exit the station and walk towards the Spanish Steps, which will be directly in front of you.
