Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the center of St. Johnsbury, VT. Take I-91 South towards Newbury. Exit at 16 for US-5 N towards Barnet. Continue on US-5 N for approximately 10 miles until you reach the junction with VT-114. Turn left onto VT-114 N and continue for about 8 miles. You will pass through the town of Sutton. Follow the signs for Willoughby State Forest. The entrance is located at the end of a small road off VT-114.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a Greyhound or a local bus service to St. Johnsbury. From St. Johnsbury, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service to reach Willoughby State Forest, as public transportation options are limited in this rural area. The taxi ride from St. Johnsbury to Willoughby State Forest will take about 30 minutes and may cost between $30-$50, depending on the service.

• Bicycle

  If you are feeling adventurous and wish to cycle, from St. Johnsbury, take US-5 N to VT-114 N. This route is approximately 18 miles and provides beautiful scenic views of the Vermont countryside. Please ensure you have proper cycling gear and be cautious of traffic on the highway.

• Hiking

  For experienced hikers, if you're already near the area, you can access some of the trails leading to Willoughby State Forest. However, note that this requires knowledge of local trails and should be attempted only by those familiar with the terrain. Always carry a map and inform someone of your plans.
