Car
If you are driving from Newport, VT, take VT-105 E and follow it until you reach the junction with US-5 S. Turn left onto US-5 S and continue for about 15 miles. Then, merge onto I-91 S and continue for approximately 30 miles. Take exit 6 for US-2 W towards Montpelier. Follow US-2 W for about 14 miles until you reach Worcester. Once in Worcester, look for signs directing you to CC Putnam State Forest. The forest entrance is located on the right side off of US-2, near the intersection with Cram Hill Rd.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in this rural area. However, you can take a Greyhound or a local bus to Montpelier, VT. From Montpelier, you will need to use a ride-sharing service or taxi to reach Worcester. The distance from Montpelier to CC Putnam State Forest is approximately 12 miles. Ensure you check the schedules for any local taxis or ride-sharing services in advance as they may vary.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking is a great way to reach CC Putnam State Forest. From Newport, you can follow VT-105 E and then connect to US-5 S, following the same route as if you were driving. Make sure you have appropriate biking gear and check the weather conditions before you start your journey. The total biking distance is around 45 miles, which will take several hours depending on your pace. There are limited stops along the way, so plan accordingly for food and water.
Walking
Walking to CC Putnam State Forest from any location in Orleans County is not practical due to the distances involved. The closest populated area is Worcester, which is about 12 miles away. If you are in Worcester, you can walk to the entrance of the forest, taking Cram Hill Rd off US-2. However, it is recommended to use a bike or car for a more feasible and enjoyable visit.
