If you're traveling by car, the easiest route to Mount Independence is to take Route 7 South from the center of Rutland. Follow Route 7 South for about 20 miles until you reach the town of Orwell. Once in Orwell, turn left onto Mount Independence Road. Continue on Mount Independence Road for approximately 2 miles, and you will arrive at the Mount Independence parking area at 472 Mt Independence Rd, Orwell, VT 05760. There is no entrance fee for visiting the site.

For those using public transportation, you can take the Green Mountain Transit bus service from Rutland. Board the bus heading towards Middlebury and get off at the Orwell stop. From there, you will need to arrange a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Mount Independence, as it is approximately 3 miles from the bus stop. Ensure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as service may be limited. Note that taxi services may have variable rates, so it's advisable to confirm the fare before starting your journey.
