Getting There

  • Public Transit

    From Rutland, take the Green Mountain Transit (GMT) bus route towards Mendon. Board the bus at the Rutland Regional Medical Center stop or the Rutland Depot. Ensure you check the schedule for the next departure. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the Mendon stop. From there, you will need to walk about 1.5 miles along US-4 toward the Green Mountain National Forest entrance. Follow these directions: head east on US-4, and you will see the entrance to Green Mountain National Forest on your right.

  • Bicycle

    If you're cycling from Rutland, start on East Street heading east until you reach US-4. Turn left onto US-4 which will take you directly towards Mendon. The ride is approximately 7 miles and mostly flat. Keep an eye out for traffic and use bike lanes where available. The entrance to Green Mountain National Forest is approximately 1 mile past Mendon on US-4 on your right.

  • Walking

    If you prefer to walk from Rutland, start by heading east on East Street until you reach US-4. This route is approximately 7 miles and may take about 2.5 to 3 hours. Once you reach US-4, turn left and continue walking until you see the entrance of Green Mountain National Forest on your right, approximately 1 mile past Mendon.
