Getting There

• Car

  From the center of Upper Valley, head south on Route 5. Continue for about 10 miles until you reach Windsor, VT. Once in Windsor, turn left onto Back Mountain Road. Continue on Back Mountain Road for approximately 2 miles, and you will see the entrance to Mt Ascutney State Park on your left at 1826 Back Mountain Rd, Windsor, VT 05089. Parking is available on-site.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, start by taking a bus from the nearest transit station in Upper Valley to Windsor. Depending on the bus line, you may need to transfer at the main bus terminal. Check the local bus schedules for exact routes and times. Once you arrive in Windsor, you may need to use a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to reach Mt Ascutney State Park, as it is about 2 miles from the bus stop. Be prepared for potential rideshare costs.

• Bicycle

  For those feeling adventurous, you can cycle to Mt Ascutney State Park. From Upper Valley, take Route 5 south towards Windsor. The ride is approximately 10 miles and is mostly flat, making it accessible for most cyclists. Once you reach Windsor, turn onto Back Mountain Road and continue for about 2 miles until you reach the park entrance. Make sure to wear a helmet and bring water for the ride.

• Walking

  If you are staying close to the park or enjoying a longer trek, walking to Mt Ascutney State Park is possible. However, be mindful that it is about a 10-mile walk from the center of Upper Valley to the park. Follow the same route as for cycling, taking Route 5 south to Windsor, and then Back Mountain Road. It’s a scenic route, but plan for at least 3 to 4 hours of walking time. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
