Car
From Montpelier, VT, take I-89 S. Merge onto US-2 E toward Stowe. Continue on US-2 E until you reach the intersection with VT-14 S. Turn left onto VT-14 S and continue for approximately 14 miles. After passing through the town of East Montpelier, stay on VT-14 S until you reach Plainfield. In Plainfield, look for signs directing you to Groton State Forest. The entrance is located off of the road leading to the forest. Parking is available on-site.
Public Transportation
Take the Green Mountain Transit bus from Montpelier to Plainfield (check the schedule for exact times). Once in Plainfield, you may need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the remaining distance to Groton State Forest, as public transport options directly to the forest are limited. Be sure to confirm any taxi services in advance, as they may require booking ahead of time.
Bike
If you're up for a biking adventure, you can cycle from Montpelier to Plainfield along the scenic backroads. The distance is approximately 12 miles. Once in Plainfield, follow the same route as mentioned for cars to reach Groton State Forest. Ensure you have a good map or GPS device as some roads may be less marked. Keep in mind that cycling may take 1-2 hours, depending on your pace.
