Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from any location within Shenandoah National Park. Navigate to Skyline Drive, which runs the length of the park. If you are coming from the north, enter the park at the Front Royal Entrance. If you are coming from the south, enter at the Rockfish Gap Entrance. Once on Skyline Drive, head south towards Mile Marker 56. Bearfence Mountain is located near Mile Marker 56. Look for the Bearfence Mountain trailhead parking area on the right side of the road. There is no entrance fee for the park, but be aware that parking at trailheads can fill up quickly, especially on weekends.

  • Public Transportation

    Public transportation options directly into Shenandoah National Park are limited. The closest major bus station is in Harrisonburg, VA. From there, you would need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to a park entrance, such as the Swift Run Gap Entrance or Rockfish Gap Entrance.
