Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head to Skyline Drive, which runs through Shenandoah National Park. To reach The Point Overlook, enter the park at one of the main entrances, such as the Front Royal Entrance Station or the Thornton Gap Entrance Station. Once you are on Skyline Drive, continue driving south. The Point Overlook is located at mile marker 48.1. Look for the signs indicating The Point Overlook, and be prepared to pull off the road into the designated parking area. There is no additional cost to park at the overlook, but you must have a valid entrance pass for the park.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to The Point Overlook. If you are relying on public transit, consider taking a bus to the nearest town, such as Elkton, VA. From there, you will need to arrange a taxi or rideshare service to take you into Shenandoah National Park and to The Point Overlook. Be aware that this option may incur additional costs for the taxi or rideshare service, and you will still need to pay for your park entrance fee upon entering the park.

• Hiking

  For those who enjoy hiking, consider accessing The Point Overlook via hiking trails. The overlook can be reached from the nearby Appalachian Trail. Depending on your starting point, you may need to hike several miles to reach the overlook. Ensure you are adequately prepared with proper hiking gear and sufficient water. Note that there are no direct public transport options to the trailheads, so you will still need to drive or use a taxi service at some point.
