Bus
From Federal Way, head to the Federal Way Transit Center. Take the Sound Transit bus route 586 towards Seattle. The bus will take you directly to the downtown Seattle area. After approximately 35-40 minutes, get off at the stop near 5th Ave and Pike St. From there, walk to the Pike Place Market area, where you can catch the Seattle Center Monorail. Ride the monorail to the Seattle Center. Once you arrive, follow the signs towards the waterfront, and you can reach Lake Union by walking a few blocks northwest.

Head to the Federal Way Transit Center and board the Sound Transit Link Light Rail towards Seattle. Get off at the Westlake Station, which should take about 30 minutes. From the Westlake Station, exit and walk to the Pike Place Market area. Here, you can catch the Seattle Center Monorail to reach the Seattle Center. Once you arrive at the Seattle Center, follow the signs towards the waterfront, which will lead you to Lake Union, located a few blocks northwest.
