Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the town of Winthrop, WA. Head east on WA-20 E (also known as the North Cascades Highway) for approximately 16 miles. After passing the town of Mazama, look for the signs directing you to the Maple Pass Trailhead. Turn onto the Rainy Pass Road (Forest Road 730) and continue for about 2 miles until you reach the trailhead parking area. There is no fee to park at the Maple Pass Trailhead.
Public Transportation + Car
For those relying on public transportation, you can take a bus from nearby towns to Winthrop. Once in Winthrop, you may need to rent a car or arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Maple Pass Trailhead. Follow the same directions as above from Winthrop, heading east on WA-20 E for approximately 16 miles, then turning onto Rainy Pass Road (Forest Road 730) for about 2 miles to the parking area.
Hiking from Nearby Trails
If you are already hiking in the area, you can access the Maple Pass Trail from nearby trails. The Maple Pass Trailhead is part of the North Cascades National Park. If you are coming from the Rainy Lake Trail, follow the signs to Maple Pass, which is well-marked. Ensure you have appropriate maps and check trail conditions before heading out.
