Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car within the Hatfield-McCoy Mountains area, head east on Route 52 from any location in the mountains until you reach the intersection with Route 80. Turn right onto Route 80 and continue driving for approximately 10 miles until you reach the town of Panther. Once in Panther, take a left onto Ostenaco Road. Panther State Forest is located at 239 Ostenaco Rd, Panther, WV 24872. Follow Ostenaco Road until you see the entrance to the forest on your right.

• Public Transportation

  If you are relying on public transportation, check for local bus services that operate within the Hatfield-McCoy Mountains region. You may need to take a bus to a nearby town, such as Welch or Logan, where you can catch a connecting service to Panther. Once in Panther, you can take a taxi or rideshare service to reach Panther State Forest at 239 Ostenaco Rd. Be sure to confirm the bus schedules ahead of time, as they may not run frequently, and check the estimated fares for the bus and taxi services.

• Bicycle

  For those adventurous enough to cycle, you can follow the same route as for cars. Start on Route 52 heading east, then turn right onto Route 80. Make sure to wear a helmet and have proper reflective gear, as the roads may not have dedicated bike lanes. The ride will be approximately 10 miles before reaching the turn for Ostenaco Road. Keep in mind that you will need to be cautious of traffic, especially on Route 80.
