If you are driving from downtown Eau Claire, take US-53 North. Continue on US-53 N for about 12 miles until you reach the exit for WI-29 W. Take the exit and merge onto WI-29 W. Travel for approximately 5 miles and then take the exit for County Road P/Elk Mound. Turn right onto County Road P, and follow it for about 2 miles. When you reach 857th Street, turn left. The Lower Chippewa River State Natural Area will be on your right.
Public Transportation
To reach Lower Chippewa River State Natural Area via public transportation, start by taking a bus from Eau Claire to Elk Mound. You can check the local bus schedule for the best times. Once in Elk Mound, you will need to either walk or arrange for a taxi to take you to 857th Street. The natural area is approximately 1.5 miles from the Elk Mound bus stop. If you opt for a taxi, fares may vary, so be prepared for an additional cost.
Bicycle
For those looking to cycle, start from downtown Eau Claire and head north towards the Chippewa River State Trail. Follow the trail until you reach the intersection with WI-29. From there, you can bike along the shoulder of WI-29 W for a short distance before turning onto County Road P. Continue to 857th Street and turn left. Be cautious as some sections may not have dedicated bike lanes, and ensure you have proper safety gear.
Walking
If you're already in Elk Mound and prefer to walk, you can head to 857th Street from the town center. The natural area is about a 30-minute walk. Head west on County Road P and then turn left onto 857th Street. The scenic walk will give you a chance to enjoy the local landscape before you reach the Lower Chippewa River State Natural Area.
