What to expect
Meet us as the "Big White Boat" at the Viaduct harbour. The Viaduct Harbour is busy by day with many restaurants and bars and comes alive at night under lights! Viaduct Harbour, formerly known as Viaduct Basin, is a former commercial harbour on the Auckland waterfront that has been turned into a development of mostly upscale apartments, office space and restaurants. As a centre of activity of the 2000 America's Cup hosted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, as well as the 2022 Rally New Zealand, the precinct enjoyed considerable popularity with locals and foreign visitors. It's also the base for round-the-world yacht races, the annual boat show and many more events. You'll start your morning with an amazing breakfast before we head for a quick tour of the local area. We'll be sure to show you we're you can have the best photo opps!
We'll head from the Viaduct passing the container terminal and the waterfront area close to the historical "Custom House" then head to City Central before making our way to to Albert Park, a beautiful spot to see the city and enjoy nature. We'll stop along the way at many of the historical university buildings also before heading to our next location.
We'll take the car to our next stop, the Auckland Museum, but not before we pass key sites like K-Rd, Grafton Bridge and other little 'gems' that you would not normally know existed if you weren't a local. The Auckland Museum is surrounded by a beautiful park grounds, with lush green grass and trees, and several different varieties of 'water foul' We'll take you on a peaceful nature walk past ferneries, ponds and enclosed gardens full of wonderful flowers and fauna. Next will be a quick trip to the Museum itself, but you can come back here later, time is limited so onto the next place!
Devonport is another 'must visit' place in Auckland. We'll head back to the Viaduct and take the Ferry across to Devonport which is a place that has almost 'stood still' since the Victorian Era buildings went up around 1830. You will absolutely love this quant little village. We'll have lunch here at one of our favourite places and first drinks on us! while you watch the people fish from the wharf and the dozens of boats come and go as locals enjoy the peaceful waters around the harbour. Well then explore the village and you might be tempted to grab an ice cream or do some souvenir shopping
We'll take the car to the historic North Head reserve. North Head is one of the oldest volcanic cones in the Auckland volcanic field, formed over 50,000 years ago in a series of volcanic eruptions12. It was one of three cone pa in the Devonport area. North Head has a long history of Maori occupation and as a coastal fortification. It is considered the most significant coastal defence site in New Zealand because of the size and variety of its defence installations, which span nearly 120 years and include elements from all periods of New Zealand's coast defence history. We'll provide some torches so you can explore the tunnels! You could easily spend all day here, but we'll only spend a couple of hours, then it's off to our next little adventure.
Once we head back from Devonport on the Ferry, we'll then take the car to Cornwall Park. Cornwall Park is a breath of countryside in the heart of Auckland. You'll enjoy its nature, experience the working farm, play games on sprawling open lawns, run or walk its paths, listen to the birds, or simply relax under your favourite tree. Cornwall Park has been part of Auckland’s landscape since 1903 after it was gifted to New Zealanders by Sir John Logan Campbell and put into a trust that looks after it for you - and the generations to come. Cornwall Park's gardens, plants and trees are an important part of what makes it so special. There are 12 flower gardens, 425 hectares, and over 8000 trees for you to discover.
