What to expect
Ausangate 7 Lagunas
We start picking up passengers at 4:00 a.m. from the different hotels or hostels in Cusco, then head to the community of Tinke (12,402 ft / 3,780 m a.s.l.) in a journey of approximately three hours. From there, we take the detour to the community of Pacchanta (14,138 ft / 4,310 m a.s.l.), about 40 minutes away. In Pacchanta, we will enjoy breakfast and begin our hike of approximately 6.5 km, visiting the lagoons of Azulqocha, Otorongo, Alqacocha, Q’omercocha, and Patacocha (15,551 ft / 4,740 m a.s.l.), while admiring stunning views of Ausangate Mountain (20,932 ft / 6,380 m a.s.l.) as well as native birds, alpacas, llamas, vizcachas, and, with some luck, the majestic Andean condor. Around 11:30 a.m., we will arrive at the last lagoon and, after a short rest, start descending back to Pacchanta, where we will have lunch at 2:00 p.m. Afterwards, we will have free time to relax in the hot springs before starting the return journey to Cusco at 3:30 p.m., arriving at approximately 7:00 p.m.
