    I booked a last minute private tour with Juan Carlo. He proved to be a very professional guide and a pleasure to communicate with him. We spent around 5 hours in the nature of Monteverde. Spotted lots of birds (a matter of seconds for him) including the beautiful Quetzal tropical bird. Had a fantastic morning! If you are into birds, don't mind getting up before 6am and are looking for the best guide. Schedule this tour and enjoy!

    We started at 6am with pickup at our hotel. Jean Carlo took us to 3 different locations and we saw and heard over 40 species of birds (only a few were seen at more than one location), including my favourite hummingbirds and Northern Emerald Toucanet. Jean Carlo was extremely knowledgeable, identifying every bird, adding them to the list in the eBird app so we could review them later, and helping us get the best photos and videos of each one. He certainly did everything he could to give us the best experience, which we will never forget!

    This was an amazing birdwatching experience that made our stay in Monteverde so much more valuable. My mum and I went on the 5h tour, which starts at 6 AM. It was the first time birdwatching for my mum, whereas I had a little bit more of experience. Nevertheless, Jean Carlo made the morning super fun and interesting for both of us despite our different levels. He knows A LOT (he’s one of the top birders in Costa Rica), therefore he’s adept for guiding experienced groups as well that want to get those lists done. He was also very good at explaining and sharing knowledge about the species. He knew all the hidden spots, therefore we could see the species that we wanted to see (Bell Bird and Quetzal), and of course many many more. We went to two spots in Monteverde and to the Curi Cancha reserve, where you can rent binoculars vortex for 11$. After the end of our tour, we stayed in the reserve to further explore on our own. Best experience, definitely recommend to all levels and ages.

    This was my friend and I's first time birdwatching and Jean Carlo made sure it was an amazing experience. He was able to spot so many birds and share interesting facts about them. He took the time to teach us how to use binoculars and how to take pictures through the scope. You can really tell how passionate he is about birdwatching and it makes you appreciate the experience even more. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

    My friend and I booked a tour with Jean Carlo and it was a highlight of our trip. Neither of us had been birdwatching before, but we wanted to take a tour in Costa Rica because there are so many beautiful birds here. We showed up really unprepared (no binoculars, didn't know what we were looking for), but Jean Carlo did a really great job teaching us the basics of birdwatching, setting up the scope so we could see the birds, and telling us facts about the different birds we saw. I imagine he would be an even better guide if we were experienced birders - you can tell that he really loves the birds and wants to share them with visitors. My friend and I both plan to do more birdwatching when we go home, and our good experience with Jean Carlo definitely helped us feel that way!
