    It was absolutely amazing. Such a beautiful sanctuary. I wanted to cry holding the sloths and the monkeys were so much fun to hang out with.

    You definitely interact with the Sloths, Monkeys, and birds! You are given a chance to hold the Sloths and the birds. The monkeys run all over! LOVED that part of it! The tour was supposed to be 3 hrs, but it was only 2 hours (incl pick up/drop off from Port for Royal Caribbean)! I was a bit disappointed in that I was hoping it would be more informative/educational at the Sanctuary. Our guide really didn't give you much info, unless you asked him a question. The tour involved going into the patio area to hold the sloths. There were a couple of Sloths in the tree behind the patio. The monkeys and the birds were in large, walk in cages for groups of people to walk into and interact. I'm guessing they were only in those cages during the day for tourists. That immediate area was new, only having been completed in the past 2-4 months. It was an expansion of the Sanctuary of which we were not shown. Roatan and the Sanctuary was REALLY busy, with 8 Cruise Ships in the 2 ports!

    We booked a sloth and snorkel excursion with ROA while on a cruise in November 2024. The quantity of five star reviews gave us a lot of confidence in booking outside the cruise line for our excursion. While in another port a day prior to our stop in Roatan, our son got pretty seasick while snorkeling, and I reached out to Herbert to see if we could adjust our last minute plans. He was more than accommodating, and provided us a way to still make our stop memorable while in Honduras. Trista shuttled us to the sloth and monkey encounter - which had just relocated into a new facility weeks prior. This stop was very professionally managed and clean. The Daniel Johnson team was awesome! We left the encounter and drove over to nearby French Key. The water was absolutely clear, and the snorkel tour was getting ready to depart. Once we were finished here, it started to rain pretty hard, and Trista drove us to the Macaw market which had a lot of local goods available for purchase, and a chocolate and coffee shop. The employees at the store were making the chocolate bars, and we had an opportunity to learn about how the different types of chocolate are made, and sample several types. There was also really good ice cream that we shared while at this stop. We drove around more of Roatan, and at our request, Trista even took us to a grocery store so our kids could get learn more about the local culture and purchase some candy to take back to their classes (the candy was so good!). Trista was so kind, patient and helpful! She was a great driver, informative and helpful. It was also her birthday so we found ourselves honored that she would choose to spend her birthday with us. Even though our plans needed to change last minute, my son has remarked several times that Roatan was his favorite stop on the cruise. It absolutely down poured, but we can't wait to return to Roatan and will look up ROA without thinking!
