What to expect

This mountaineering activity is a challenging climb, but very rewarding experience! The difficulty is medium to high degree, depending on how is your physical preparation and coordination. Active people should not miss this adventure! The ascent of Mount Pico start around 7am and an average duration between 7/9 hours, depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions. The steep and irregular trail is composed between solidified lava flows and scramble rocks, has 4km distance and 1100mt of elevation from the starting point at Casa da Montanha (1230mt altitude) to the top of Mount Pico - Piquinho (2351mt altitude), covering the full climb on 8km distance and an accumulated elevation of 2200mt. Our Certified Pico Mountain Guides will lead you by the best track possible ensuring the most safety and enjoyable activity for you, with all the information about the geology and biodiversity of the volcano. It is also important to understand the climb depends on 3 meteorological factors: Wind direction and intensity + Cloud altitude levels + Rain forecasts.
