The cathedral of San Miguel de Tegucigalpa is one of the oldest and most important buildings in the city that is preserved until today in good general condition. In colonial times, the parishes of Tegucigalpa were reserved for Spaniards and Creoles, so the "lower" classes had to build their own church, with their money and effort. This is how the Dolores de Tegucigalpa Church was built. The work that corresponds to the provincial baroque style is listed as one of the most beautiful in America and in every detail of its facade reflects the commercial activity that existed at that time in addition to symbolisms related to Christianity. The interior is a masterpiece where the altarpieces that were prepared by the assembler and painter Blas de Mesa, stand out above those existing in other churches, a work of detail that satisfies the most demanding connoisseur of colonial art.
