If you want to go into tunnel buy ticket at entrance. Met two people who walked thru. I tried and a guy Came up asking for 20USD. It's only 40 lympias at booth. The site is doable in a couple of hours. Don't really need guide unless you are a full on history buff. Well worth a visit. Some really good protected stone images

I went to a few ruins during my time in Central America, but this was by far the best in terms of the level of detail. It was really interesting seeing all the Mayan art, particularly the hieroglyphic staircase. Also, you get a panoramic view of the ruins that feature on the Honduras Bank note. It was also cool seeing lots of macaws.

Copan Ruins also known as Copan archaeology site is well worth a visit.
I never tire of ruins, whether Aztec, Inca or Mayan.
Our guide for the morning was the very knowledgeable Rex who has to be 65 but loves his job. What he doesn’t know about this site isn’t worth knowing. For 30 years as a guide, he knows how to capture a groups attention with stats, figures, anecdotes, humour and even a little musical jig (he’s also a musician).
The site isn’t as large as others I’ve visited but certainly well worth visit. Allow 2 hours to explore.
At the entrance there are a couple of shops for touristy trinkets or refreshments. Toilets are located here as well. Also here is a 3D map of the site showing the scope and extent of the structures.
Built between 706 and 756 AD, it’s an impressive. The British researched the site around 1890 and today there are efforts to restore certain sections.
The macaws that fly around the area are certainly eye catching but like cockatoos, they can get a bit mangy with feathers dropping out and mites attacking their skin. There are a few places where food is put out for them to feed on, which is nice as a tourist but I wonder if they become reliant on this handout.

The place is very interesting and full of stories.

It's a morning trip, get there early, as soon as it opens when it's empty and the experience gets better and better, take water and a comfortable pair of tennis shoes.

Quiero decir que si viaje hasta San Pedro Sula, fue solo para poder ir a ver el yacimiento arqueológico maya!
Tras contratar con varias semanas de antelación, una excursión a Copan, tras recogernos e iniciar viaje, cuando estábamos a una hora del destino, me dijeron que había un problema!
El recinto no estaba abierto al público, al parecer por ser el día de descanso!
Creo que cada lunes, por tanto, es día de descanso...
Como solución se me ofreció volver al día siguiente, o bien pernoctar en Copan según he averiguado, el martes y el miércoles, está también cerrado.
Yo creo que nunca se debió confirmar mi reserva y menos iniciar el viaje, por lo que considero muy malo el servicio dado, y que para evitar futuros problemas deberían ser más competentes...creo por tanto que un reembolso es lo mínimo a lo que tengo derecho!
