    Holidays are all about making memories in my opinion. If you agree than this Dance show steps its way effortlessly to the top of the queue. Made our way effortlessly from Cadiz by train and a short 20 minute walk brings you to the door. Tickets were got the day before. So no issue there. Turning up on the day without a ticket not advised. Regardless of what type of traveller you are solo, couple or family this has something for everyone. Steeped in tradition but beautifully brought to life this 90 minute show inside a covered, indoor arena is not to be missed. Unique to Jerez, Spain and not to be missed.

    To be honest we weren't going to see the How the Andalusian Horse Dance show as we're not really into horses. But after a few people mentioned it we thought we would give it a go. I booked a wheelchair space and carer space for €16 each via their website the night before, it was a bit of a faff booking as there’s no United Kingdom in the drop down list of countries - it’s Reino Unido (all the other countries are in English!) and you have to select 'otra' for the document then put in your passport number… The show starts at midday and lasts 90 minutes with a ten minute interval. It was a mere 6 minute scoot from our hotel [Hipotel Sherry Park, Jerez] so very handy. There’s an excited buzz when you arrive and the arena building is set in the middle of a beautiful botanic garden, it’s all super wheelchair accessible and there’s an accessible toilet and a platform lift up to the spacious disabled viewing area which has plenty of space for wheelchairs and there are moveable chairs for carers. It gives a fabulous view of the arena - see photo - and being short statured it was perfect for me because having someone sat in front of me at a performance can totally block my view. That was not the case here! The show is a mix of equestrian ballet with classical Spanish music and costumes inspired by the 18th century, carriage driving, and a police horse display - jumping over barrels, a motorbike and police car bonnets. It’s all very theatrical and you can certainly appreciate the huge amount of training that’s gone into it. I wasn’t so sure about the rearing up and flicking out the back legs ‘tricks’ but there’s no doubt these horses are living the life and are immaculately kept. All in all a very enjoyable late morning out.

    Amazing show! I had a little trouble booking this because Viator was asking for passport information. I called and was able to book by phone without passport info with a very nice lady on the phone. The show itself was amazing! It was expensive taking a taxi from the cruise port. Be very careful determining the taxi charges, better yet, use Uber. It’s about 30-40 minute ride from the cruise port. We had cabby wait for us which was way more expensive than the cabbie initially promised.

    We weren’t lucky enough to be there for a full show , but had a tour and saw the horses practice, it was great we were aloud into the stables and saw the horse’s close.

    Having travelled from Carmona we gave ourselves plenty of time and arrived quite early but it was worth it. We avoided all of the ancillary visits and walked towards the main hall. We found that a number of horses and riders were out practicing/warming up in their normal workaday clothing. We glimpsed the Senior Trainer closely watching proceedings. All this with the backdrop of the Sandeman Bodega! The hall is long and fairly narrow but built for performance. Within the lower walkways there are cafes and shops. All the seating has great views (we had pre-purchased front row seats just to be safe). The show we saw was perhaps two thirds full (a Thursday in June). Not being a “horsey” person I cannot give specific details apart from it is very impressive. Horse and man (one girl we spotted) combining to put on quite a show. There is an intermission which caught us by surprise. The grounds of the School are impressive just to wander around.

    Each show consists of between six and eight different choreographies, with the same degree of difficulty and entertainment value and scheduled by the school according to the following repertoire; Doma Vaquera; a demonstration of the skills of this Spanish riding discipline based on traditional cattle herding. The horseman rides his horse around the arena using only one hand, first trotting and later galloping: Changing the rhythm and then performing pirouettes and arreones (breaking into a gallop). Classical dressage; 'The Colts', 'Airs on Horseback', 'Pas de Deux' "Passage and Piaffer", "Domino on Horseback", "Airs above the ground" and "Fantasy", are just a few of the coreographies which make up the repertoire of the performance. Horses carry out advanced equestrian exercises to pieces of classical music that accompany them while they perform in the arena Carriage driving; horses also demonstrate their abilities by drawing carriages. These horse-drawn carriages were originally used for transport but are now relegated to sport and exhibitions, using classical harness and driven by coachmen, who dexterously demonstrate this exciting skill. Work in hand; The horse also obeys its rider even when the horseman is not in the saddle by carrying out classical Haute École dressage exercises such as levades, caprioles, courbettes, piaffe (between pillars), the Spanish walk and long reins. Carrousel; A group of horses and riders, in unison, perform advanced equestrian exercises in the arena to provide a most fitting end to the performance.
