We were picked up by the ship and we started our journey on the boat. The captain took us to an island where we were lucky enough to see a bear eating salmon last minute but quite far away so it was good I had binoculars. Then we went to a river with some salmon. It was fun and interesting to see so much wildlife. My 4 stars instead of 5 is because the journey was quite boring, and no much talk or interesting facts about Ketchikan no matter how much I kept asking

We were super excited to find a bear excursion that didn’t involve a float plane. Alex (our captain) picked us up right beside the cruise ship. The trip to Traitor’s Cove took about an hour. The weather was perfect — sunny with temperatures around 75. We saw 5/6 bears on this day. The bears weren’t in the normal viewing area but we could easily see them from the walking path to the viewing area. Alex was super knowledgeable, friendly & accommodating! Highly recommend this excursion.

Alex was GREAT--very knowledgeable about the bears/the salmon/the area in general and a pleasure to chat with the entire trip. We immediately saw a family of bears and several others during our viewing time, all catching & eat salmon--my school-aged boys absolutely loved it! And watching the salmon swim upstream was just amazing. Even the boat ride to & from the bear viewing site was peaceful & enjoyable. Most amazingly, Alex kept his calm the entire trip, even after losing his own cell phone just before taking off on the boat--I would have been so distressed if I lost my phone, but he did not let it affect us enjoying our trip at all. Would definitely recommend to others.

This trip was the highlight of our holiday. The small group made the experience very personal. Top marks to our guide, Alex, who gave us a wonderful insight into the area, as we sped up to Traitor's Cove, in the boat. When we docked at the landing stage, the views were breathtaking, and we certainly felt very far removed from our cruise ship! Walking up to the bear viewing hide through the rainforest was magical, and Alex explained that we needed to be on constant watch, as the bears use the trail. The hide gave us clear views of the river, and we immediately spotted our first bear, pulling salmon out of the water. He was joined by several more, and then we had the most amazing luck, as a Mum and her cub strolled up towards us on the trail, and then a Mum with 2 cubs made their way down to the river, for their fishing lesson! 5 stars for the excellent way this trip is arranged. We have memories to last a lifetime from our fantastic bear viewing experience.

Unfortunately we didn’t see any bears, but Captain Lance was great, the boat ride was fun and the scenery was beautiful! Saw lots of spawning salmon!!

This was a highlight of our trip! Alex, from Ketchikan was the best guide we had all week! He was so knowledgeable and truly loves his town. We had a beautiful boat ride where we saw whales and seals. The bear viewing area is easily accessible for older folks. There are not a lot of people here so it wasn’t over crowded. We saw a bear catching salmon! The scenery was beautiful!

This tour was the absolute highlight of our trip to Alaska! Alex was a fantastic guide. He had great communication and the boat ride was super comfortable and scenic. We saw bears pretty much immediately when we got to the platform, and seeing the mama bear with her cubs on the trail was absolutely amazing. We saw a bear catch several salmon and eat them right in front of us, just like in the movies. :) Truly incredible!! None of the other tours we took on our trip came even close to this one.

The price is worth it. Had a great experience and got some great pictures and videos. Our captain, Sheldon, was knowledgeable and let us stay a bit longer than scheduled to maximize our time watching bears.

We got some great videos of black bear. The path to the blind was enchanting with a moss-lined path. We encountered some rough waters on the boat ride back but our captain navigated us in between some islands to minimize the rough ride. It was a great day. It would have been even more spectacular if the salmon were actually running but very happy with seeing bears.

The excursion was a lot of fun with John, our very knowledgeable and friendly guide. A very nice boat took us across the beautiful waters to a platform where we saw 5 black bears fishing salmon from the stream and eating them. Watching nature so close was such a rush! The salmon trying to swim upstream against a rushing current was fun, too. A must-do excursion in Ketchikan!
