What to expect
Guests are picked up from their centrally-located hotel in Chiang Mai, depending on the preferred time of the visit. The duration of this tour is between 2-3 hours and can be scheduled between the opening and closing time of the studio (09:00 hrs – 17:00 hrs, closed during the weekends and Thai public holidays). The short transfer brings you to the studio nearby Doi Suthep where you are welcomed by the team behind Studio Naenna. During the course of these 2-3 hours, the team will explain in details the techniques used in handwoven textiles and all processes of natural dyes to create wonderful silk and cotton fabric, mainly focussed on Lao-Tai patterns and design (Xam Nuea and Muang Phuan textiles). As you move through the studio, witnessing weaving demonstrations and introductions to the various types of fabric available, the historical aspect on motifs, design and how the founders tirelessly worked to revitalize this almost dying breed of handicraft. The collection of fabric has expanded rapidly over the years since Patricia and Lamorna Cheesman have ventured into taking sustainable steps in creating awareness of the heritage that this art form has delivered to the public. The studio has two galleries with exquisite examples on display as well showing Patricia’s private antique collection. Interested customers are able to ask questions, enjoy seeing the textiles and admire the beauty of Lao-Tai heritage throughout the years and portrait in the family’s vision of stunning garments. After thanking the hostesses for their explanation and time taken to transfer some of their passion to you, we transfer you back to your Chiang Mai hotel.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
