What to expect
Highland Park, well known as ‘’Viewing Square’’, and earlier in Soviet-era as ‘’Sergei Kirov park’’ is one of the most favorite places in Baku to have a walk, rest, and enjoy the sea view. There you can take rest by breathing fresh air, viewing the city, drinking tea in the Highland Park Café , while listening to the classic lounge music. It’s the best place to relax, which is located right in the heart of Baku.
Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum was established in accordance with the decree No. 130 of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR dated March 13, 1967. From 1967 to 1993, the museum was called the Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Folk Applied Arts, from 1993 to 2014 – State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov, from 2014 to 2019 – Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, and from 2019 to the present – Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.
Baku Boulevard is a promenade established in 1909 which runs parallel to Baku's seafront. Its history goes back more than 100 years, to a time when Baku oil barons built their mansions along the Caspian shore and when the seafront was artificially built up inch by inch.
Little Venice” in Baku Boulevard is a small town built-in 1960. It was expanded up to 10.000 sq.m. in 2012. The town has two large and several small islands, which are connected by decorative stone bridges, and gondolas can be seen traveling in the channels full of still and clean water. In the 1950s and 1960s the Mirvari (Pearl) cafe, the Little Venice water park, the Bahar (Spring) cinema, and other entertainments were built in Baku Boulevard. “Little Venice” in Baku Boulevard is a small town built-in 1960. It was expanded up to 10.000 sq.m. now. The town has two large and several small islands. The redevelopment of the “Small Venetian town” saw the expansion of the existing channels and the construction of additional bridges and two restaurants, one offering Western cuisine and the other Eastern. Boats are provided for 4 people: one is designed for guide and the rest – for passengers. Located nearby the Caspian seashore you will feel as in Venice by visiting ‘Small Town of Venice’. The restaurants located in the ‘islands’ offer various meals of different cuisine, including Azerbaijanian tasty dishes. It will be interesting firstly to observe around in gondola, later to have a great lunch or dinner in the ‘islands’. Currently, Mini Venice has several islands that are divided by pristine water channels. Beautiful ornate bridges connect these islands. You can hire a 4 seater Gondola for a ride around these islands. There is one Eastern and one Western restaurant in this complex. I found this place very tranquil and serene. The feeling of drifting in a gondola, next to the Caspian Sea, very relaxing.
Maiden Tower
Maiden Tower is a symbol of Baku. This is a unique 8-floor structure with majestic 4-5 meter thick walls built on a rocky promontory overlooking the Caspian Sea. Maiden Tower has been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. There is an amazing view of the city and the Caspian Sea from the top of the Tower.
The modern Azerbaijan is recognized in the world through its nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev. And the Center bearing the name of Heydar Aliyev has become a symbol of modern Azerbaijan and modern Baku. The building of the Heydar Aliyev Center is an embodiment of the development of the present-day Azerbaijan and its attachment both to the past and to the future. The logo of the Heydar Aliyev Center also represents a reflection of this idea. The Center’s logo symbolizes Azerbaijan’s forward-looking aspirations, the progress and the future of the country. The silver color of the logo epitomizes the overcoming of obstacles and moving towards a goal. The silver color is a symbol of leadership, struggle, dynamism, wisdom, transparency, development and innovation.
