Discover more about Highland Park

Highland Park, known locally as Dağüstü Park (Upland Park), is one of Baku's most scenic and historically significant destinations. Perched atop a hill, it provides unparalleled panoramic views of Baku's skyline, the Caspian Sea, Baku Boulevard, and the iconic Flame Towers. Originally, this area was known as English Park, serving as a burial site for British soldiers in the early 20th century. In 1935, architect Lev Ilyin transformed it into a public park. During the Soviet era, it was named after Sergey Kirov and included attractions like a theater and amusement rides. Following Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, the park was renamed Highland Park. The park features the Alley of Martyrs (Şəhidlər Xiyabanı), a memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1990 Soviet crackdown and the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The Eternal Flame symbolizes the enduring spirit of Azerbaijan's martyrs. The park also includes monuments to Bahram Gur and General Azi Aslanov. Extensive renovations between 2011 and 2013 added modern lighting, walking paths, and landscaped gardens. Today, Highland Park is a blend of history, remembrance, and scenic beauty, making it a must-visit location in Baku.
