What to expect

It was originally built to house the three organs of power of the Salvadoran State and their respective dependent offices. Over time, the building became too small compared to its original functions and each body abandoned it, the last to withdraw being the Legislative Assembly in the 1970s. In 1980 it was declared a National Monument
The site where the cathedral stands today, in the center of the city of San Salvador, is the place where the colonial church of Santo Domingo stood in the 19th century, which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1873. In 1956, Archbishop Luis Chávez y González undertook the reconstruction works, the first stone was laid on Friday, October 12. of the cathedral that lasted for four decades. During this time, the cathedral witnessed the numerous social conflicts that the country was experiencing. On August 6, 1975, the Popular Revolutionary Bloc (BPR) took over the temple in protest against government repression. It was the first of several shots of the cathedral that took place until 1980. Under the floor of the cathedral there is a large space called "the crypt", in which there are two chapels. Just below the altar of the temple is the mausoleum of the saint and martyr Óscar Romero
The property is located on the south side of Plaza Francisco Morazán on Calle Delgado. It boasts a French Renaissance style with Rococo, Romantic and Art Nouveau details. It has a capacity of 650 seats. It has boxes of three levels, of which the Presidential Box stands out in the second elevation. Likewise, there is an ellipsoidal dome that contains a mural by the painter Carlos Cañas.
