    A group of friends from AWLC (American Women's Literary Club, Peru) visited the distillery of London to Lima Spirits on Saturday 13th April a small group of us travelled by minivan from Lima to Chilca where we visited the distillery of London to Lima owned by Alex James. Only an hour and a quarter from Miraflores, we were immediately overwhelmed by the peace of being out of the city. We were warmly greeted by Daniel who took us on our tasting tour. We started off by sipping the Sechura Rum whilst listening to an explanation of how it is processed. Afterwards we moved onto experiencing the London to Lima Gin. This was followed by lunch in the garden set under the shade of the trees and coupled with a delicious house cocktail. After which we sampled a dark rum which they are about to launch. Of course, we couldn't leave without buying a couple of bottles at 20 percent off the normal price!

    The London to Lima Gin distillery tour in Peru was a delightful family experience! Engaging for both adults and teenagers, the tour provided insightful glimpses into the gin-making process.     As a big fan of gin, I was very excited to hear about the gin tour, recommended to me by a friend. I had tried the gin at a bar in Lima and as someone who travelled from London to Lima (!), I wanted to know more. We were toured around the distillery by the CEO and head distillery Alex James. On arriving we were treated to a complimentary G and T - what a start! Alex's passion for the gin and its unique Peruvian qualities made the tour so informative and increased my appreciate for the taste of the gin even more. He uses Pisco as the base spirit, which he distills himself and the mix of traditional Peruvian and British botanicals are grown around the distillery. After Alex had explained the gin making process, we were given the opportunity to seal our own bottles, then add the label. We were so impressed by Alex that we even got him to sign the label! This is a great activity to get out of the city if you are in Lima and a way to bring back home a perfect gift!

    I first tried London to Lima Gin at a bar in Lima having heard about it through friends. I was blown away by the gin’s unique flavour and immediately looked at their website to learn more about the incredible story behind it. I was delighted to find out that they also offered tours of the distillery and couldn’t resist the opportunity to gain a first-hand insight into the world of London to Lima Gin! Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by the owner Alex and served a complimentary gin and tonic (a great start!) I was taken aback by the serene setting of the distillery, surrounded by trees and greenery, and it felt almost as if I was in a different country, such was the welcome contrast to the grey of central Lima. The tour started with the fascinating account of Alex’s background in the British Army and how he decided to start the London to Lima adventure. We were then guided around the distillery as Alex explained in detail how the gin is produced, from the moment the grapes are harvested to the gin being bottled and sealed. Speaking of this, we were even able to label and seal our own bottles to purchase and take home, which was a great personal touch. Once the tour had finished, we sat in the pagoda and had a peaceful lunch overlooking the beautiful surroundings, which was a great way to top off an excellent visit. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who’s in and around Lima and fancies doing something completely different from the normal tourist activities!

    As a member of the AWLC in Lima, Peru, I occasionally plan outings for our group. It was mine turn for June so off we went to Chilca to meet Alex and taste the London to Lima master blend of Britain and Peru. I had been introduced to Alex at the Phoenix Club in Lima and given a taste of the tour but wanted to see and experience the making of the spirit. We traveled about an hour and fifteen minutes south of Lima to a quiet retreat minutes from the highway. It is amazing that something so peaceful can be so close to the hustle and bustle of Lima. Alex merrily greeted us and took us to the look out where we were treated to a gin tonic, enjoyed fine views of the fields surrounding us and listened to his unique life adventure. Then he took us to the distillery where he carefully explained his labor of love making gin in Peru. He hand picks the grapes, yes, the first distillation is made into pisco. Then he distills it two more times to add the botanicals, four from Peru and four imported and then adds the crystal glacial water from his personally discovered pure water source that he trucks to Chilca. If we desired, we were invited to try a hand at labeling and sealing the bottles with the lovely blue wax brought from England. At the end of the distillery experience we were taken to the site museum where unique and succinct archeological pieces are displayed. Here, we were treated to the new secret brew, soon to be released. If you have the time, it is worth the visit to enjoy this unique tour and taste the hand crafted spirit made with love in Peru.
