What to expect
World's First Oil Well
On our way we will also stop at the first oil well that was drilled in Azerbaijan and in the world in general. Drilled in 1846, it first gave oil on July 14, 1848. This oil well played immense role in pushing the oil production forward to the world we have nowadays. Also we will pass the pumpjacks built back in soviet days, that are working to these days.
Mud Volcanoes
This land has been an active mud volcano zone for hundreds of years now. Sprayed all over the territory, it creates a surreal landscape that distinctly reminds the moon’s surface. Back in days people used to believe that this place is a homeland for jinns (demons in Azerbaijani culture). Leading to mud volcanos, a small trail that brings a certain angle of romantism into the mix, creating a majestic scenery. Leaving this beautiful place appears to be hard, but we can assure you, that there’s so much more to see along the way.
After the information settles in, guests of Azerbaijan Travel International are able to finally see the prehistoric man's site themselves. The main heritage they left behind are rock paintings placed all over the territory. You’ll have the chance to not only get deep historic insight but also trail around the territory, viewing the petroglyphs, and listening to the guide, who will be telling tourists a story about the evolution of humankind. The survival skills of Homo sapiens, their harsh living conditions, the desire to survive, their hierarchy system, and the specific moments of everyday lives of their life will be told you by our guide, allowing you to have deeper understanding of prehistoric era.
Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape
The next stop is one of the reasons why Gobustan is as popular all over the world as it is right now. There, hidden away from preying eyes, stands the village of the first Cro-Magnons, untouched by human hands. But firstly, our guests will be guided to the modern museum where they will get an insight into what our ancestors lives looked like and will be told the history of these lands.
Baku
On this note, we have officially reentered the capital and settled down to share a meal at one of the nicest parks of Baku in a restaurant, proudly carrying the same name as the capital itself – Baku Restaurant. Traditional three-course lunch with the cup of delicious tea will help tourists regain powers to embark on the second half of their journey – The Absheron Peninsula.
Azerbaijan is declared to be the country of fire and it has historical basis. For long centuries Absheron’s lands were covered with naked flames coming out of the ground. Rumors about this miracle spread around the world pretty quickly and in the first century BC, Hindu Brahmanites and Persian Zoroastrians have decided to build a majestic temple there. They gave this place a significant name – Ateshgah. Azerbaijan was always situated on the cross-roads, therefore back in the days there wasn’t a day when the country wasn’t full of merchants who needed a place to stay and rest. For these purpose on the territory of Absheron a magnificent caravanserai was built. Visiting it, tourists will have a chance to hear about every day life of those who lived there long time ago, the traditions of fire worshippers and so much more.
Yanar Dag
Yanardag is one of many magical places in Azerbaijan. For many centuries fire flames were bursting out of the land itself, giving the mountain the place is situated in its name (Yanar Dag – “Burning Mountain”). Located nearly at the top of the mountain itself, it gives tourists not only the great overview of the surroundings and the fire itself, but also leaves a satisfying “out-of-this-world” experience. On this meaningful note, we can say that the Gobustan-Absheron is coming to its natural ending and we return to Baku safely. The Gobustan-Absheron tour lasts for around 9 hours, starting in the morning and finishing the journey late in the evening. It takes some time, but by the time guests of Azerbaijan Travel International return to Baku, they can see the bigger picture and carrying the deeper understanding of the miracle that Azerbaijan is.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
