Dr. Wagner's Honey Island Swamp Tours

Enjoy this Louisiana Swamp experience — a unique outdoor adventure that is safe, organized, fun, and educational. Upon arrival at the starting location on the West Pearl River, in Slidell, Louisiana, venture in to the gift shop overlooking the Tupelo and Cypress swamp and check in for the tour. Be sure to take a look out of the back window to see if any backyard guests are lurking in the murky waters below. Don’t forget to use the restrooms before embarking on this 2-hour tour throughout nearly 70,000 acres of the Honey Island Swamp, a permanently protected wildlife preserve. While walking down the dock, embrace the excitement of seeing the moss hanging from the gnarled cypress trees and the sweet smell of wild azaleas in the air. There's an undeniable eagerness to explore. Listen intently to the captain’s tales of pirates, Bigfoot, and prehistoric creatures roaming the region while entering the primitive beauty of the Honey Island Swamp. Keep an eye out for alligators, herons, egrets, deer, feral hogs, nutria, raccoons, otters, turtles, and frogs — an abundance of wildlife along the banks and the in the murky waters. Or look up and out for bald eagles, owls, osprey, and other waterfowl soaring through the skies. They could be visible one second and gone the next. Those touring Honey Island can easily see why Louisiana is known as the Fisherman’s Paradise. Passing through the Cajun village, where local fisherman reside, see them catching bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, and warmth. Thousands of pounds of crawfish are caught in these waters every season as well. All the tour boats are inspected and approved by the US Coast Guard. These small, custom-built, flat-bottom boats transport approximately 20-24 individuals each. They are operated by experienced local guides who interact with the guests and make the trip both enjoyable and exciting. With the journey back up the river, the captain leads the way to the original departure location to close out the tour. NOTE: This option does NOT include transportation to and from New Orleans. Please select "Honey Island Swamp Tour with Pick-up from New Orleans," should you need hotel pick up.

We had a great experience on May 4th with Captain Paul ! He was so knowledgeable about the area's history, the wildlife and plant life. We saw crocodiles, egrets, herons, raccoons and turtles! I would highly recommend this tour even if you are native to Louisiana!

Captain Kyle didn’t disappoint today. Great tour with a ton of wildlife! The weather was perfect and our guide was a wealth of knowledge about the area and the animals we saw.

This tour is something that should not be missed if you're in the area. Our guide was informative and willing to answer any questions. The swamp itself was gorgeous, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely..in spite of the fact that it started pouring rain about half way through. Our guide handled the change in weather beautifully, handing out tarps for the passengers to cover themselves with, so we all ended up a little damp instead of soaking wet at the end of the ride.

For Capt. Hunters first day on the job, he did an excellent job. Very knowledgeable and made the trip fun. Definitely recommend this tour very educational.

We had a great guide, Captain Hunter, who showed us many gators and was very knowledgeable about the swamp and it inhabitants. He was so sharp eyed, he spotted a little snake curled up in a bush near the water. I was with my adult son and his 10 and 2 year old and we all just loved the tour!

Nice, fun activity to do with family. easy checking in and out. We saw several alligators, raccoons, egrets, herons, and osprey.  the best price around.

One of the main tours we have been looking forward to on our trip. It’s about 45-minute drive to Slidell from the French Quarter. Here we took a swamp tour along the Old Pearl River with Honey Island Swamp Tours. Fortunately, it was not too hot, we did book an early tour, and we did not have any bug issues. We were surprised that there were no mosquitoes. The guide was informative with the history of the area and knowledgeable of the swap. It was nice as we went along the river, but so much better when we went into one of the bayous. We saw a lot of interesting things and some wildlife, a variety of birds and a snake. The highlight was when we spotted some alligators. They were awesome and they came close to the boat. The captain also pointed out interesting features and told us fascinating facts along the way. It was a great tour and we all enjoyed it very much. Haven’t been on any others but I would recommend this one.

Captain Steve made this a stand out trip we weren’t sure how we’d enjoy it when booking but it’s been one of the best days we’ve had thoroughly recommend. Spray up with bug spray and take a hat it gets hot

Great experience, excellent guide. No Gus’s approach with plenty of wildlife to experience. Captain Scott certainly has a good sense of humour to accompany his Expertise.
