Terrible experience after booking a mangrove tour for 2 using this TripAdvisor site almost 24hrs in advance! Despite information about the tour saying 'reserve now & pay later' I was required to provide credit card details to complete the booking and the payment was subsequently drawn from my linked account. I subsequently received an email from TripAdvisor confirming the booking but advising it was pending confirmation by the operator - which may take up to 3 days! There was no indication of this potential delay in the tour information - which may take up to 3 days!
We duly arrived at the designated meeting point in Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary next morning in the hope that the tour would be delivered, only to be told by staff and other operators that they had NEVER heard of this tour operator! No-one answered the contact number for inquiries to the supposed operator that were provided in the TripAdvisor booking confirmation despite repeated calls over 30 minutes, including by concerned officials from the Sanctuary. The number came up as belonging to Jays Inn, not Tyndis as advertised. It seems this tour page may be a scam. Ultimately we took a great tour with another operator for a fraction of the price we had paid for the boat tour that was NEVER DELIVERED!

Experiencing these mangroves was incredible, to say the least. The way the community is intertwined with sustainable practices over decades is nothing short of a miracle. And hearing first-hand stories of the planting and preserving of the mangroves is just a cherry on top. Ayyappan sir is a treasure trove of stories that will make it feel like you are in the documentary when it’s being shot! Thanks Naveen, Maria, and Neha and hats off to all the storytellers of Tyndis for helping us connect with the heritage of the Malabar region. No amount of pictures and videos can do justice to this place - so don’t Google, just go!

I contacted Naveen at the Tyndis team regarding a tour I wanted for a bird photography in Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary and they came up with a package which included a guide and a boat trip through the mangroves! On less than 24 hours notice, they organized everything, including pickup from my hotel and transfer to the mangrove. Thank you to Binusha, my guide/story teller for all the history she was able to share about Calicut, the region and the people. Thanks also to Siddique, our boatman, who paddled through the mangroves along with the forest guide. They were very relaxed and patient, whilst we accessed areas to view birds that I could photograph. I was in Calicut only for 2 days, being off season, wasn't expecting to see much but was very happy with the experience and with the photographs I managed to capture. Thank you again for organizing things on such short notice!

A boat cruise can never get better than going on a large yet simple country boat, puddled through the emerald river waters. What a beautiful experience was that for me at the Calicut mangrove tour with Tyndis! Really down to earth villagers who are not only excited to see you, but also caring and would even invite you to have a meal at their house! What else could make my idea of cultural immersion better!
I was merely expecting an eco-tour when I booked this mangrove tour in Calicut with Tyndis. But to my amusement, the tour turned out to be a real good village experience. That was just an icing on the cake! I could see the traditional fish farms and fishermen who were busy repairing their nets. The palm-fringed islands were almost resembling a beautiful painting.
I was really unaware about the different varieties of mangrove. Mr. Sushil, the tour coordinator from tyndis beautifully translated the deep knowledge shared by the local mangrove protector, Mr Ayyappan. He has spent his life in conserving mangroves for the village. The wide merits of mangroves for an ecosystem was a real eye-opener!
Adding to the beauty of the tour, I had an opportunity to see the giant train by the Indian Railways passing over my head through the bridge across the river. It was spectacular!
I travelled solo and had a couple sharing the boat with me. With the special personal care given during the cruise, each guest gets to have the best experience of the mangrove tour. It is one of the top things to do in Calicut! Don’t miss out on this!!!
