    This wasn't just any old canyoning experience, it was the perfect blend of serenity and exhilaration. Can't recommend this adventure with Hamish and his crew highly enough. They were patient and caring with some of our more cautious team, while providing the thrills for the more adventurous of our group.

    We originally booked the Grade 3 rafting trip, but due to low water levels, it had to be cancelled. The team at Wellington Rafting offered us the chance to go canyoning instead—and we’re so glad we did! The experience was incredible, with an exhilarating mix of ziplining, abseiling, and rock jumping. Huge thanks to the amazing Wellington Rafting team and we highly recommend!

    Incredible experience down in the canyon! Very thorough briefing and explanation of what was happening before hand, then had a short drive to get to the canyon, and a beautiful potter through the forest having good yarns with the crew. Once in the canyon, there’s multiple stations that you get to experience including a zip line, water jumps and some rappel stations. All of which you are coached through at the time so it all feels super safe. You finish the day with some food and drink and catch up about all the adventures you just had. The team are so so friendly and beautiful. Thanks to all!

    My friends and I joined the lovely Hamish and Dan on a canyoning adventure this Saturday! I want to start off by saying we were all absolutely blown away by how much fun we had. From the zipline into the canyon, to the epic abseiling down waterfalls and even the beautiful walk in and out of the Akatarawa bush, everything exceeded our expectations by far. Hamish was super knowledgable and we all felt very safe with our guides during the 5 hours we spent with them, which flew by in no time. (An added bonus is that they even provided a yummy wrap at the end with some much needed warm cordial). If you're considering doing canyoning with Wellington Rafting I cannot recommend it enough, it's well worth the money as you'll never have another experience like it. We'll definitely be back, cheers guys!

    What to expect

    The adventure begins with a thorough safety briefing including a demonstration on how to rappel /abseil a rope followed by a 20 minute walk along an old logging track into the Akatarawa forest where the first feature of the Little Akatarawa Canyon tour begins. An exciting zipline into the Little Akatarawa canyon followed by four waterfall descents repelling/abseiling by rope into the heart of the canyon, we lower you through the first waterfall to get you comfortable in the environment then if you are confident and want to do an independent abseil our experienced team of guides are there for support to coach you through the activity making sure you are safe and having fun. Wading through a shallow creek and jumping from height into fresh pristine water (optional) is so much fun and the scenery is truly an experience to remember, the Little Akatarawa Canyon has got to be the greatest little hidden gem in the Wellington region being only a 40 minute drive from the CBD we are so lucky to have such a cool adventure on the doorstep of the capital city, Wellington. Age restrictions: to participate in this tour you need to be at least 8 years old.
