The Akershus Fortress and Castle is one of the most spectacular sights in Scandinavia. It was built originally to protect the capital city of the country and was strategically constructed on the shoreline to enable enemy ships to be sighted long before they reached the shore.
The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet
The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet is the largest performing arts institution in Norway employing over 600 people. The opera building is unusual in that it allows and encourages visitors to walk up onto the roof making it an interactive and modern building.
The peaceful and amazing building of the Oslo Cathedral is a pleasant and relaxing stop. Consecrated on the 7th of November 1697, it is the official church of Norway and many national, parliamentary and royal events are held and celebrated here.
Oslo City Hall
The main feature of Oslo City Hall is its a vast array of art which attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. The collection includes a room dedicated to the famous artist Edvard Munch.
Nobel Peace Center
Be in awe of some of the world's most influential people at the Nobel Peace Center. It acts as a central place in which exhibits, discussions and reflections about both war and peace can be held.
The Fram Museum is tells the history of the polar expeditions which the country has participated in. The centrepiece of this museum is the wooden polar explorer ship, the Fram.
The Kon-Tiki Museum
The Kon-Tiki Museum houses vessels and maps from Thor Heyerdahl's 1947 Kon-Tiki expedition, including the raft used for the voyage. Heyerdahl's voyages are important because they help show that man had mastered sailing long before the saddle and the wheel were invented.
