I reached out to Ruth last minute about a camping / adventure tour, and she helped set me up with an existing group, purchase clothing needed and get ready for the trip. Roger (mainly spanish but some english) our guide was fantastic and kept cool during heavy rains and other tricky situations. We saw a caiman, snakes, monkeys, tarantulas, sloths, dolphins, piranhas, frogs, butterflies, dragonflies, and lots of birds. Bring bug spray, snacks, wipes, and a light towel, it’ll be damp/mucky in the forest but otherwise a great time!

Our experience with Ruth Amazon Expeditions was incredible. We purchased a three day expedition in the heart of the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. The expedition was an incredible experience with beauriful views, excellent guides, surprisingly good food considering us being out in the middle of nowhere, and we felt well cared for. To start with, Ruth is an incredibly friendly lady and we didn't feel pressured to make a purchase of a tour with her like all the other agencies in Iquitos. She was honest and open about what we can expect and what we could potentially see. She was the only one that offered an expedition into the national park at a reasonable price and she was also the only one that didn't tell us whatever we wanted to hear just so we would purchase the tour. The experience in the Amazon was incredible. We got to see macau's, grey and pink dolphins, squirrel monkeys, parrots and parakeets, tarantulas and other massive spiders, fire ants and bullet ants, massive caymans, huge snakes, and much more. Of course there was more stuff we wanted to see, but the reality is it is all up to chance and our guides were the reason that we saw as much as we did. The peace and tranquillity of the experience was incredible as well full of breath taking views without any connection to civilization to interrupt it. The guides on the tour were incredible and friendly. They are passionate about their jobs and love sharing their passions with others. We felt super comfortable under their care and were well taken care of. The guides made every attempt to maximize the time we had in the jungle while still being considerate to us about the challenging nature of the expedition and didn't push us too much. They were also honest and upfront when necessary about the dangers that we might face at different times along the journey. The experience was incredible with Ruth, you could not choose a better company to go with. The tour is well priced and you get a lot for what you pay for. The guides cared alot about making sure the experience was amazing. The one thing that I will say is that you should do your research about what you are getting yourself into. The Amazon can be a ruthless and scary place, and it's important that you are aware of the dangers before going out. Make sure you have the necessary vaccinations and gear before going then purchase a tour with Ruth, and your experience in the Peruvian Amazon will be incredible.

Best jungle experience ever with our guide Roger! We've been on a few jungle trips now, and this was by far the best for a few reasons. 1) Our really experienced and knowledgeable guide Roger, who, with our boatman, didn't tire of working throughout the trip to give us an amazing experience. In some places we have been, there have been 2-3 hours of activity a day - this is definitely not the case with Ruth's team, where we had 12-15 hours a day of activities each day. He knew so much about the flaura and fauna and the history of the region - really couldn't recommend him highly enough. 2) Pristine nature. Going deep into Pacaya Samiria, we only saw other tourists once or twice during our trip and saw loads of wildlife. This included grey and pink river dolphins, a sloth, tarantulas, an anaconda, an anteater, macaws, and loads and loads of monkeys - howler, squirrel and tamarind to name a few. 3) Integration with the locals. Ruth's firm is locally owned, our guide was from Iquitos, and the tours work with one of the few campesino settlements in the reserve to bring in income. The settlement was gorgeous and felt very authentic - nothing like the fake "tribes" you hear about. Book it! We went for 5 days, I would definitely suggest at least 3 and more if you can.

Ruth has been the friendliest person from the moment I got into contact with her. She was always available for any questions and made sure I had a good time. The tour itself was amazing. Roger is one of the best guides I have ever met. Even though my spanish is not really good, I had the best time ever because the vibes were just really positive and great to be around with. Roger has a lot of knowledge about the jungle and its animals and plants. For me it was very important to see animals in the wild and treating them very respectfully; and I didn’t get disappointed. We were so close to nature but it wasn‘t invasive. I also loved that we were a small group and rarely saw any other humans during my experience. The tour itself was very well organized and you get everything you need. I didn‘t expect that high level of comfort with my own tent and basic but really good and more than enough food. I stayed 5 days and would always come back immediately and do even more days the next time. I can highly recommend the Ruth Amazon Experience!

Ruth’s Amazon Expedition is unbelievably incredible, unlike any other Amazon tour! It is the best way to experience the Peruvian Amazon on a deeper level, and in an ethical, true, and authentic way. It is the purest and most raw version. We camped for 4 nights and 5 days and I wish we stayed longer! Roger is the absolute best Amazon guide there is! You have to request to have him as your guide. He is so knowledgable, fearless, calm, patient, intelligent, and has a passion like no one else for the jungle and for all of the wildlife within it. He is always happy! Roger and Eliseo (our boat driver) took such good care of us, from beginning to end. From portaging the canoe, walking us through the complex rainforest with nothing but a machete and a flashlight, and navigating us on the boat in heavy rains, complete darkness, and fog, to setting up our tent and bed each day, preparing delicious hot meals for us, keeping calm in the lightening storms, falling trees, and jaguar paw prints, and bringing our clothes in from outside to keep them dry when it poured rain. Their ability to spot, point out, and bring us so close to the wildlife in the jungle while at the same time respecting them in their natural habitat was pure magic. Everything from handling lethal snakes and spiders, to scorpions, piranhas, and prehistoric insects, from caimans and dolphins, to manatees and sea lions, from massive frogs and sleepy sloths, to the many species of birds, fish, and monkeys singing in the treetops and coming down to surround us. Not to mention all kinds of exotic fruit, rare trees, beautiful flowers, and the most unique plants as they thrive wild in the rainforest. Highly highly highly recommend journeying through the Amazon with Ruth’s team and do as many days as you can! You don’t just see the Amazon, you live it. You feel it. You taste it. You smell it. You embrace it. And most importantly, you honour and respect it. And if you let it, it embraces you. Thank you Ruth, Roger, and Eliseo for the most incredible and unforgettable trip of my life!!

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

1 Day 8.00 AM Reception from the airport or hotel we will then travel by road from the city of Iquitos to the city of Nauta, by private car for 1 hour 30 minutes, and then board the slow motor boat (Pamacari) where we will sail the Marañón River for approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, until we reach the Pv1 checkpoint of the PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE, We will continue boating for 30 minutes until we reach the community of Buenos Aires. During our journey we will observe flora and fauna on the banks of the river. Birds, especially herons, can be observed. Lunch In the afternoon we will sail the yanayacu pucate basin in order to appreciate the gray and pink definitions and birds (toucan, huacamayo, gulls, Martin fisherman, Victor days, camungos) return to the peasant house, at night we will hike at night in order to appreciate the nocturnal fauna (tarantulas, snake, night monkey) Dinner and rest

2 Day Before breakfast we go canoeing on the huayllas river to appreciate the famous sloths and prehistoric birds (shanshos) Breakfast return. Preparation and departure to campsite where we will sail by motorboat 1 hour approximately until we reach the ravine alban (strategic point) Then we will walk through the jungle where the guide will explain about the medicinal silvers (cat's nail, grade blood, grapes, among others) their properties, we will also know how the peasant people live together. In the course of the walk you will appreciate giant tree, (ceiba, capiruri, cedar and others) lunch. At night we will sail by canoe to search for alligators in their natural habitat. Dinner and rest.
