What to expect
Wat Huay Mongkol temple is actually a complex of temples which is the home of the biggest monk statue in the world – the statue of the famous monk, Luang Phor Tuad. The famous monk, Luang Phor Tuad, was born 400 years ago, at the end of the Ayuthaya period, in Nakhom Si Tamarat, (in south Thailand). Luang Phor Tuad was famous for doing miracles and the Thai people believe his image holds protective powers to keep them from nature disasters and the evil eye. The monk, Luang Phor Tuad, is a holy man admired by many of the Thai people who come to pay him their respect from all over Thailand. Thai people also believe that carrying an amulet of Luang Phor Tuad keeps the evil eye away and brings them good luck. There are some small shops selling these amulets and some other memorabilia at the park.
