What to expect
Auronzo di Cadore
The first stage of our day, after having passed through enchanting mountain villages for almost 2 hours, we will make a short stop of about 30 minutes to admire and take a short walk along the coast of the crystal clear waters of Lake Auronzo, which also thanks to the chain Marmarole mountain range, welcome us to the Dolomites. One of the most interesting aspects of Lake Auronzo is its geological history. The lake was formed by a glacier that carved a deep basin in the valley during the last ice age, leaving behind a breathtaking landscape that continues to attract visitors from all over the world. Lake Auronzo is the largest lake in Cadore, with a surface area of about 1.7 sq km.
Lago di Misurina
In the heart of the Dolomites where we will breathe mountain air there will be our second stop after 30 minutes of travel. Lake Misurina is a natural alpine lake, the largest in Cadore. The particular climatic characteristics of the air around the lake make it particularly suitable for those suffering from respiratory diseases. Here you will have time to take a walk around the lake or alternatively, you can enjoy an optional lunch in the various huts and restaurants, tasting typical mountain dishes while admiring the splendid mountain peaks. Lake Misurina is located at an altitude of 1,754 meters above sea level and is surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks, including the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, which are part of the Dolomites. The lake has a maximum depth of 5 meters and covers an area of approximately 0.14 square kilometres. Its crystal clear waters are fed by several mountain streams and the lake is considered one of the cleanest and purest in Italy.
Lago di Dobbiaco
During our 20 min journey, we will take a short break to admire our third stop. Lake Dobbiaco is a small alpine lake surrounded by forests and mountains, with crystal clear waters and a rocky beach. The lake is characterized by its crystalline waters which reflect the extraordinary natural environment. The lake is located in the South Tyrol province of northeastern Italy and is close to the Austrian border. The lake is located exactly on the border between two natural parks: the Tre Cime natural park and the Fanes - Sennes and Braies natural park. The basin has an estimated volume of 286,000 cubic meters and a perimeter of approximately 4.5 kilometres. Lake Dobbiaco is one of the few examples of water meadows (a wetland) existing in the Alps. It is fed by several small streams and is drained by the Rienza River.
Lago di Braies
In the fourth stage of our journey, after traveling another 20 minutes, we reach the extreme north-east of Italy a few kilometers from the border with Austria for a visit to the famous lake of Braies. It is considered one of the most famous and photographed lakes of the Italian peninsula. It is an emerald-coloured basin of water, surrounded by the peaks of the Dolomites. Lake Braies is known for its clear blue-green waters, surrounded by a spectacular landscape of towering peaks, dense forests and flowery meadows. The lake has a depth of 36 meters and is fed by numerous small streams that descend from the surrounding mountains. All in all, Lake Braies is a must-see destination for anyone traveling to the Dolomites or South Tyrol, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, outdoor recreation and cultural heritage.
Cortina d'Ampezzo
We arrive at our last leg of our journey after about 1 hour. Cortina d'Ampezzo is surrounded by the Dolomites at 360°. It is a sports resort of great prestige and a privileged destination for holidays. Famous for the 1956 Winter Olympic Games and for the next 2026 Olympics. Here you can enjoy a walk through the streets of the centre, the beating heart of Cortina shopping among artisan shops and unique boutiques. At the end of our last stage, another 2 hours of travel awaits us to return to the starting point. Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the most famous ski destinations in the world. The city hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and has been a favorite destination for skiers and snowboarders ever since. The city has a rich history dating back to Roman times, and was an important center of trade and commerce in the Middle Ages. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Cortina d'Ampezzo became a popular destination due to its natural beauty.
