What to expect
Pearl Harbor Historic Sites Visitor Center
Discover for yourself what Pearl Harbor means to you. Called Pu'uloa, meaning "long hill," or Wai Momi, literally, "water of pearl," by early Hawaiians, Pearl Harbor, so named because of the abundance of pearls once found within its protected waters, is the largest natural harbor in the State of Hawaii and the number one visitor destination on Oahu. Today, Pearl Harbor remains an active military base, Headquarters of the Pacific Fleet, and a National Historic Landmark that's home to four unique attractions: from the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that started it all, to the surrender of the Japanese on the deck of the mighty Battleship Missouri, these four historic sites together tell the story of the War in the Pacific, commemorating the accomplishments of a previous generation.
Pearl Harbor National Memorial
Visit Pearl Harbor the home of the USS Arizona Memorial, learn about one of the most pivotal moments in US history of WWII. Boat ride to USS Arizona Memorial, exhibit galleries “Road to War” and “Attack”, visit Pacific Historic Parks Souvenirs Shop.
USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park
USS Bowfin (SS-287) is a fleet attack submarine that fought in the Pacific during WWII, and helped to make famous the term, “Silent Service.” Bowfin was launched on 7 December 1942, exactly one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger, so it is fitting that her permanent home is at Pearl Harbor, Hawai’i.
Battleship Missouri Memorial
Visit the battleship USS Missouri—lovingly known as the "Mighty Mo". After fighting in the last year of the war with Japan, Mighty Mo served as the location where Japan would sign the official surrender documents. In addition to the historical significance, Mighty Mo offers a look at what life at sea was like aboard a battleship.
Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum
Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is located on historic Ford Island, a 441-acre island in the middle of Pearl Harbor. Moored off its shores on Sunday, December 7, 1941, were some of the largest ships of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, in addition to the dozens of patrol and scout planes that filled the hangars and airfield, all of which were targets on that fateful morning. HANGAR 37 Housed in an authentic World War II-era hangar, Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s Hangar 37 is home to the artifacts of our collection that tell the story of America’s involvement in World War II from the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor to the Battle of Midway and beyond. HANGAR 79 Hangar 79 picks up where the story in Hangar 37 leaves off, documenting the rise of American air superiority that was established in World War II and continued to climb in subsequent decades in the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf Wars. 50+ aircraft and all exhibits in Hangar 37, Hangar 79 and The Raytheon Pavilion.
Downtown Honolulu
