My 16 year old had a private lesson with Noah, and she loved it! He told her what she needed to do, gave great tips, and kept challenging her by having her go further out in the water, which allowed her to have longer runs.
My husband and I were very pleased with Maui Wave Riders; I would definitely recommend them. The 2 hour private lesson was very reasonable. Everyone that worked there was friendly, and everything felt organized from beginning to end. We walked out of there feeling good about our experience, and my daughter walked out of there feeling confident with her new skill!

I took my three children (14, 14, and 11) with me to take surf lessons. We had a very fun time! Our instructor was very patient and encouraging. We all were successful in getting up several times. Two things to be aware of... first, it is very rocky, which I guess gives better waves, but one of my daughters banged her leg on a rock and cut it open so for the rest of the lesson she had blood running down her leg. My other daughter also had bumps and bruises from the rocks. Nothing that we couldn't manage, but as people who live about as far away from an ocean as possible, we were not aware that the "beach" would be like this. Second is that it is very crowded. Several times we had to wait for others to get out of our way or we would have to try to avoid them as we were trying to surf. This didn't generally take away from our experience, but just something to consider.

They gave us all the gears needed. The instructor was great and attentive. My 11-year-old daughter who was trying surfing for the first time, learned enough to go on her own next time. We hope to go again on our own, just rent a surf board and practice more.

Our grandson had a great time learning to surf with Noah. He got up and began surfing right away. He loved the waves. Noah was great to work with. They have a wonderful photographer that takes great photos. .

Loved learning to surf here! Chaz was super thorough on the instructions before we got in the water. When we entered the ocean Chaz taught me how to evaluate the wave and I was up and riding on my second try. Highly recommend this place and Chaz! Pro tip: go earlier in the day for less crowds.

My visit was very organized from the moment I arrived. At age 78, and having never tried surfing, I scheduled a two hour private lesson. My instructor, George, was first rate. He took the time I needed to cover the basics before we hit the water. He was patient and encouraging throughout the lesson. He was interested in me as a person, not just another paying customer. I highly recommend Maui Wave Riders!

Our son (16 YO) had his first surf lesson with Sol (sp?) and he had an amazing experience. He felt supported and fell in love with surfing, thanks to her support, experience and her own love for the sport. Would definitely recommend Sol and Maui Waveriders to anyone wanting to learn to surf in Maui.

Awesome place, as usual. My daughter had a private lesson and her instructor was awesome! She was able to get up on her board several times and was given tips on how to stay balanced longer too. She felt well taken care of and safe, as well as having a blast.

This experience was everything we hoped it would be for our grandson! A truly personal surf lesson that had him up on the board on his first try.
Kekoa then spent the next 90 minutes tutoring, guiding, and encouraging our 10-year-old; he was beyond fantastic!

Shout out to my awesome surf instructor Eddie at Maui Waveriders Kihei! I took a private lesson yesterday and had a blast! Would highly recommend booking with Maui Waveriders - very professional, friendly, great communication, and stood up on a ton of waves!
One thing that stood out to me about Maui Waveriders was that they had a quality instructor-to-group ratio, from what I saw out there - really attentive instruction, with essentially one instructor per family that was taking a lesson. Really impressive since many "surf schools" just jam as many people into a lesson as they can. You could tell Maui Waveriders really made sure everyone was getting personalized attention, which is the best way to make sure you're getting the most out of your lesson and best chance of catching and standing up on waves. All the instructors were focused on making sure their group was having a good experience, as well as helping each other out and even giving tips to beginners who weren't taking lessons. Such a supportive and friendly atmosphere.
As for my instructor, Eddie did a great job of explaining the break, getting me into the pocket to catch the waves, tips on body positioning and turning that were really helpful, and just really dedicated to making sure I had a great experience. I've been surfing for many years, but always like to take a lesson with an instructor for any new spot - there's always things to learn to improve your surfing as well as make sure you're following local etiquette and the ins and outs of the break. Eddie really made me feel comfortable and safe out there, and the tips he gave me were insightful and helped improve my surfing. More importantly, you could tell he really loves not just teaching surfing but encouraging a love of the sport. Would highly recommend him as an instructor!
Also quick shout out to the photographers (NoKaOi Photography)! Don't really have a lot of photos of myself surfing, so it was worth it to get some quality action pics. Photos were great and the package was a great value! Hiring a professional photographer just for myself would have been waaay more expensive, so this was a great service that NoKaOi and Maui Waveriders provided. Great way to capture your vacation! Plus, got the pics sent to me within a few hours and no issues downloading them.
