The open-air Agora Museum is located near Konak Square and the shops of Kemaralti Bazaar. It is a suitable place for the traveler who is interested in the archaeological sites that were built in the fourth century BC . The museum shows the ruins of the ancient city of Izmir, which is represented in the corridors by which they transported water in the past to the city. The ancient agora was destroyed in an earthquake in 178 AD but was soon rebuilt by order of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
Kemeralti Market
A large bustling market with a variety of offerings - from fresh meat to jewelry and household goods. A labyrinthine bazaar stretching from Konak Sq through to the ancient Agora, Kemeraltı dates back to the 17th century and is home to shops, eateries, artisans' workshops, mosques, coffeehouses, tea gardens and synagogues. Spending a day exploring its crowded and colourful streets, historic places of worship, hidden courtyards and grand caravanserais reveals the real İzmir. Highlights include the cafes between the Hisar Mosque and the Kızlarağası Han, which serve the city's famous fincanda pişen Türk kahvesi (Turkish coffee boiled in the cup).

The Izmir Archaeology Museum is an archeology museum in Izmir, Turkey, containing a number of artifacts from around the Gulf of Izmir. Izmir
Time to proceed to where the original city was established in the third millennium B.C. and at that time shared, with Troy, the most advanced culture in Western Anatolia. By 1500 B.C. it had fallen under the influence of Central Anatolia's Hittite Empire. In the first millennium B.C. Izmir, then known as Smyrna, ranked as one of the most important cities of the Ionian Federation; during this period - one of the city's most brilliant - it is believed that Homer resided here. Lydian conquest of the city, around 600 B.C., brought this period to an end, and Izmir remained little more than a village throughout the Lydian and the subsequent 6th century B.C. Persian rule. In the fourth century B.C., a new city was built at the instigation of Alexander the Great on the slopes of Mt. Pagos (Kadifekale).
