Puerto Princesa City Baywalk Park
A city baywalk with palm trees, flowers, lamp posts, benches, and a bay view for sunsets.
War memorial site for our heroes. A National Historical Site, Plaza Cuartel is a restored ruin of an old garrison where, in the evening of December 14, 1944 Japanese soldiers burned around 150 American prisoners of war in a tunnel found beneath the park's portals, which now stands as a grim reminder of World War II atrocities. The remains of those who died were buried at St.Louis Country, Jefferson Barracks, National Cemetery, Missouri, U.S.A in 1952. Only I prisoners survived to tell the story.
Immaculate Conception Cathedral
On March 10,1872, six days after the Spanish expedition arrived in Puerto Princesa, the first mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Exequiel Moreno in the same place where the cathedral now stands. He later erected the parish under the patronage of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It took almost a century though before the present cathedral was built, in 1961, under then Bishop Most Rev. Gregorio Espiga. The interesting angular structure departs from the conventional religious architecture of most churches in the country.
Palawan Museum
The Palawan Museum was created in 1991 with a vision of serving as a center and repository of relics and artifacts in Palawan, as a genuine source of the rich natural and historical legacy of Palawan and as a source of a growing collection and reference on Palawan’s cultural heritage.
Binuatan Creations Handloom Weaving is a well-known handicraft or pasalubong (gift) shop in Puerto Princesa wherein tourists learn to appreciate a part of Palawan’s oldest and highly esteemed traditions, which is crafting colorfully designed hand-loomed products.
Welcome to Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center! Aside from these exciting activities, guests are also encouraged to take a walk with nature in the 4-hectare Nature Park, home to the rescued endemic species in Palawan, the wild flora and a vast and diverse species of rare birds.
Rancho Sta. Monica, popularly known as Mitra’s Ranch, used to be a private property. They’ve long been opened to the public from 6AM-6PM. It is among the must-see of PPS because this gives you an astonishing view of Puerto Princesa City There are lots of activities in the area like trampoline, horse back riding, and zip lining!
Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm
This unique “prison without bars” was established by the Americans in 1904. The inmates tend vast farms instead of idly spending time behind bars. The more enterprising earn by making handicrafts and other productive activities during their spare time. Iwahig has since become synonymous to finely handcrafted bags and other souvenir items. The Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm is one of the most popular prisons in the Philippines. It was established in 1902 by the United States for the Filipino prisoners who had fought with the American during their colonization in the Philippines. The Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm is located at Baranggay Iwahig, Palawan and is 30 minute ride from the province's capital, Puerto Princesa. Currently, it houses some 4,000 inmates.
Viet Ville Restaurant
Back in the 1970’s, Puerto Princesa, Palawan became host to what was termed as boat people, Vietnamese people who escaped war raging in their country. They have fled their country searching for safe destinations in SouthEast Asia which include areas in the Philippines such as Bataan and Puerto Princesa. Puerto Princesa welcome these refugees and they were given a place where they can settle in what is now called Viet Village in Barangay Sta. Lourdes which is approximately 13 kilometers from the City Center. The Vietnamese were able to establish a thriving community.
